Patients in the UK who want to get Botox or any other dermal filler are getting help to keep them safe.
The government-backed "Treatments You Can Trust", run by the Independent Healthcare Advisory Services (IHAS), just opened to the public this week. The website is basically a register of responsible practitioners who administer the anti-aging treatments. The goal is to minimize injury to patients by providing a resource where they can find a reputable doctor.
According to IHAS, more unqualified doctors are offering Botox, putting the public at risk for complications such as infection and disfigurement. Stateside, reality star Kim Kardashian recently had a bad experience with Botox where she suffered a bad reaction, including bruising.
However, not everyone is onboard with the website or the British government's backing of it. The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) says the site is more of a marketing ploy than anything else, and doesn't meet regulation criteria. IHAS countered by saying they want the public to have the opportunity to make informed decisions.
